RIO
Its a work that illustrates the process that Rio de Janeiro has been through since 2009 as a remarkable scenario for political and social changes, specially after Brazil was elected to host the World Cup and then Rio the Olympic games. The mega events have been used as a pretext to justify removals in the favelas, as their inhabitants are driven out to the city periphery, and with the purpose of security improvement in Rio, several violent acts are held in the area caused injuries and deaths, and terrifying the Brazilians for the aggressive atmosphere of the confronts inside and outside of the favelas that stil last until today. As the social protests were highlighted in the national and international media, activists were treated as vandals, facing brutal clashes with riot police. The “marvelous city” is facing complex and challenging years.
