Simbolo

The symbolic presence of President Hugo Chavez after his death plays  a decisive   role in the election outcome in April 2013.

In the presidential elections of the 14th of April 2013, after the death of the president Hugo Chavez, the candidates Nicolas Maduro and Henrique Capriles stood head to head at the ballot box. Maduro was the supported by the former government, carrying the legacy of President Hugo Chavez, who hand picked him before his death. This produced a particular effect in the course of the electoral campaign and elections. Both speeches from the candidates included in a greater or lesser extent the name of the deceased president. The symbolic presence of Hugo Chavez and the Bolivarian revolution, now with almost religious connotation, determined the final decision of the Venezuelans and the result of the voting.
